Action Figure Junkies (AFJ)
After going on a toy run in 2012, I was on my way home and was hit head on by a felon in a stolen car. I was knocked out but still conscious and the person that hit me took off...ON FOOT. Action Figure Junkies started from a hospital bed in 2013 out of boredom after my on my iPhone after a spinal fusion surgery. I decided to be proactive and create a Facebook group called Action Figure Junkies and figured that 100 friends and family would join as a courtesy and that would be that. I couldn't have predicted what came next. My idea was to have a safe, helpful community without foul language and no put downs. At first I would welcome each new member personally tagging them and asking the other members to "LIKE" the new member. People took to the personal attention and it caught on. Soon I had 500 Junkies and I was posting as much news & pics as I could from the industry and my own adventures. Tips, deals, sales & sightings were just the beginning. At 5000 members, I knew we had something special. I had my Eisner & Harvey Award nominated artist brother and the mind behind The CW cartoon and graphic novel WORLD OF QUEST design an AFJ logo that members loved. Then I created the "Junkie-verse" with our flagship character, Captain Junkie leading the way. The idea for AFJ was to do reviews of toys and then post them on social media platforms. Now at 16,000 members AFJ has their own website, a stable of writers and original content posted every day, an in the works figure line, a comic book, a co-venture toy blog with the legendary Midtown Comics and continue to make deals with companies to review their products and promote their new figure lines. In addition we cover the movies, TV shows & comic books that all of the figures gestate from. Establishing relationships with the toy industry and supporting our passion for the hobby is what AFJ is all about.
