American Acrylic Corporation

Established in 1964, American Acrylic Corporation manufactures reinforced acrylic flat sheets for the aircraft industry, architectural industry, and lighting industry. Both fiberglass fabric-reinforced acrylic laminates and nylon fabric-reinforced acrylic laminates are used as an accommodation-layer in the installation of aircraft transparencies (windows and canopies). These materials are extremely tough, and are used both to toughen transparencies at fastening points and to buffer effects of expansion and contraction due to temperature extremes. The company also produces beautiful translucent reinforced acrylic sheets under the LUMAsite trademark. These translucent varieties do not incorporate fabric. Instead, randomly-placed chopped glass fibers reinforce the sheet and contribute to the exotic beauty. In the un-pigmented version (designated "Frost") the random fibers appear like a frosted cobweb, resembling a Chinese string paper. Other varieties look like translucent rice paper, parchment, and linen fabric. Pastel colors and a few bright colors are also offered. Indoors or out, LUMAsite sheets exhibit long-term durability and lasting beauty. Today the company manufactures high strength FRP sheets. These sheets exhibit strength, stiffness, and outdoor durability for applications in water treatment, industry, marine, landscaping and much more. For about 25 years, the company has been making bullet-resistant (armor) sheets. Both fiberglass- reinforced and aramid-reinforced varieties can be supplied. Some varieties are UL-listed.
