The most notable innovation was the adjustable handle feature for both rowing oars The "Tool Free" adjustment feature on the Alpha oar was introduced in 2015 that allows athletes to make fast (under 10 second) and easy on-the-water adjustments. This allows the athletes using this feature to change the load to adjust for varying wind conditions. A permanent molded carbon segmented screw on the shaft allows one centimeter of adjustment for every 360 degrees of rotation of the nut that is hand adjustable to move the bearing surface. To replace the bearing surface it is simply unscrewed off the shaft. No more difficult sleeve replacement required! The total length of the oar adjustment is adjusted with a self-contained lever that is also adjustable in < 10 seconds. In 2016 this feature was offered as an option on all adjustable length sculls and expanded to aerodynamic sweep oar in 2018, the Slim Ellipse sweep oar that has the sweep version of this feature as well as a new aerodynamic slim, elliptical sweep shaft, a new Apex-E blade shape. Last year at JWRC USA women won 3 medal-a gold in the 4-, a silver in the 8+ and a bronze in the 4+ along with many medals at Nationals. The first indoor rowing tank was built in 1992. Our modular designs have been shown to be very versatile and easy to install. To date we have sold 39 commercial tanks and are the leading indoor rowing tank supplier in the World. Included in the tanks sold are 6 international tanks. Durham Boat Company also provides contract design and build of propriety tooling and carbon prepreg components both inside and outside the rowing industry.
