Florida Rocket Lab
Here we believe undergraduate students can be rocket scientists. Florida Rocket Lab is a design team centered around making that belief a reality. Founded in 2016, FRL specializes in introducing aspiring industry professionals to the basic tenants of liquid rocket engine design. Our goal is to be the first undergraduate team in the country to launch and land a completely in-house developed rocket as part of the inaugural Collegiate Propulsive Lander Competition. To achieve our goals, members specialize in a variety of topics including propellant delivery, structural design, electronics configuration and of course, engine development. Every day, we strive to produce projects that our members cannot find anywhere else in Florida. Past projects have included a model air-methanol pintle injector engine, a hotfire-capable concrete test stand and an Arduino remote sensing and control system. Currently, we are working to hotfire our next generation 500lb thrust Sparrow engine to place on our competitive flight vehicle. Over the course of the 2022-2023 academic school year, 60 members are working to integrate an entirely new propellant delivery system and pintle injector with an improved electronics system. It is our goal to achieve steady combustion by the end of Spring 2023.
