Furniture Recovery
Furniture Recovery produces environmentally responsible furniture, and design services. We are here to fill an eco-friendly and environmentally responsible market niche. We use non-toxic, organic and eco-friendly stains and finishes which have little or no VOC residual gassing because we use natural substances such as milk- and clay-based paints, tung oil, shellac, and waxes. Natural tung oil, which naturally protects the wood, provides a penetrating lustrous and 3-dimensional finish that refracts light deeply into most wood grains. Traditional natural stuffings such as cotton, coir fiber and horsehair are sewn and tied to create shape to the seats, backs and arms instead of carving foam to shape. These natural stuffings have a usable lifetime 3-4 times longer than polyurethane foam with no VOC gassing out. When deck cushions are used, for the core we use a High Resilient medium firm density (fire resistant) Dacron fiber material that, while man-made, is non-toxic and doesn't gas off like polyurethane foam products. This is covered with cotton to give a natural feel, then mattress-stitched. We also use sprung cushions, with a cotton/feather wrap to provide a completely environmentally sustainable product. Natural fabrics like cotton, linen, and silk are easier than ever to maintain. New techniques are used on natural fibers like hemp and bamboo to create fabrics with incredible softness and durability.
