HDO Health
HDO Health is a mission-focused, veteran-led medical device company developing innovative technologies to help prevent deaths from uncontrolled bleeding from traumatic wounds by providing a product that is easy to choose, easy to use, and a timesaver to be a lifesaver. Bleeding to death is the leading cause of preventable fatalities, including more than 80% of combat and 40% of civilian fatalities. Of these deaths, 32% are due to uncontrolled bleeding at the torso-appendage junction. Tourniquets are commonly employed to stop uncontrolled bleeding; however, standard extremity tourniquets do not work for torso-appendage injuries. Specialized junctional tourniquets are available but are often not carried, and therefore not utilized, by front-line medical and other personnel due to equipment weight, size, and cube restrictions. Additionally, existing specialized tourniquets require professional training, multi-step assembly, and fine motor movements for effective use, and users often experience a high rate of device displacement during the transport of the patient to a definitive care site. The HDO Health Journiquet is designed to address these significant issues by providing effective and sustained arrest of traumatic junctional bleeding at the point of injury and throughout periods of patient transport, via easy employment by experienced and novice users. Additionally, the Journiquet will be compatible with storage within Individual First Aid Kits (IFAKs). NOTICE: This device is pending 510(k) clearance by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). It is not currently available for sale within the United States.
