Neonatal Rescue

Neonatal Rescue is focused on reducing infant mortality in low resource regions of the world by addressing Neonatal Respiratory Distress Syndrome (NRDS) or just RDS. The critical transition from fetus to neonate is complicated and fragile. The newborn must undergo many complex physiological changes in order to take its first breath, notwithstanding any additional complications like disease or preterm birth. Its estimated that globally 23% percent (over 900,000/year) of infant deaths are caused by asphyxia related to NRDS, the causes and treatments of NRDS are well understood and available in developed nations, these deaths can easily be avoided with simple equipment and training. By tackling this specific issue we believe we can make a significant impact (up to 95%) on infant mortality. Goal - Reduce infant mortality caused by NRDS by 95%. In the US the infant mortality due to NRDS is 1.8%, compared with the global stat of about 23% there is potential to save over 900,000 lives every year through training and readily available medical equipment. With the onset of COVID-19 and the desperate need for ventilators we have applied our technology, manufacturing capabilities, and training to build a ventilator and training for adult use as well.
